What Does A First Place Diver Look Like?

A lot like my boy Cody! Wait! It is Cody! Click it.

(I think if he could string his Xbox up somehow and control with his foot, he'd have that in this picture, too.)
And of course, it's that time of year, here is a little dive clip for ya. Completely optional.

And of course, Louie. He has nothing to do with Cody winning first today at the Liberty meet, but it's Louie getting all excited when he heard. He was happy, even if Scat the cat was nudging in on his territory.

The End Of A Season

It's over--no more dive meets to torture you with. I'm gonna miss the dive season, no doubt about it. Cody placed 6th in conference tonight--I can't tell you how proud I am of this boy--all but one other boy were seniors. I think even Cody understands he's got some great years ahead of him! This is Cody, the one other diver from our school, and his amazing and patient coach. (Cody is on your right)

PS--GiGi, I know what you're going to say about the Speedos before you even say it!

LOVELY Day For A Caftan At The Zoo, Stacey!

I think we all know it's not about the zoo, not about my oldest and youngest bonding so beautifully at the zoo,

or that the weather was spectacular for our trip...or even that my son very clearly determined the sex of that cougar (I think) up on the fence above the walkway and let us all know what he thought! Not even that the wharthog (my personal favorite) saw his shadow. Nope. I think the point is that NOBODY told me not to wear this hideous top outside, that the style combined with the loud color/design scheme made my... ahem...upstairs look very wrong among other issues. Issues such as the cut of the sleeves. Only if my arms were thin, not that they aren't. Okay, they aren't! Nope. Nobody said a *&$# thing about it all day long. Monday night I snagged this at Target on clearance for $4.00 and some change. There were bunches and the price was irresistable. Because apparently EVERYONE ELSE KNEW IT!!!
This is so upsetting to me, I'm going to bed. I've neglected you, my friends, in my commenting of late. I promise I'll be back in Stacey-form tomorrow.
Not making excuses, but here is mine: I was up until 1am typing for deadline day, rose at 6 am for zoo day, home for 30 minutes, 45 minutes each way for a diving meet, home, then laundry. I still might have mustered energy to speak my mind to y'alls posts, but then I downloaded the pictures. And I'm speechless!
PS--Cody took second and I'll post a dive on Friday, I know how much you love the dive posts. You do love them...right?

One Longgg Review For The Weekend!

It's Saturday and I thought a good time to reflect on my week. I have about twenty minutes before I need to hit the ground and run like a madwoman! You might remember I told you Niki was having her senior pictures taken on Monday? Come Monday, everything was lined up, pressed, ready to go and I went to my email to check directions the photographer gave us. That's when I read see this: "Wednesday the 10th". I ran to the kitchen (really, I ran), snagged the calendar off the little nail on the back of the cupboard door and flipped--AHHHH!! The 10th of October is a Wednesday. Houston, we have a problem. I called her, confirmed she was thinking October and I was thinking September. She is such a beautiful soul, felt terrible. When I told her I needed a headshot long before that date for the yearbook (and that Niki had paid to have her fingernails done with her own money) she said she would see if her makeup/hair lady would reschedule for later in the week. Whew!

So...Thursday. At four we went--nearly four hours long and Niki now thinks she wants to be a model. Help.Me!

Back to Monday where I started. Roofers delivered the materials for our new roof (yay, new roof! no more silverfish in the wood shingles, which will mean no more spiders in the house--eventually!). They didn't get to start until Wednesday, but that's okay, everything seems to be pushed back this week! We even started our homeschooling a day late figuring Niki would have pictures on Monday and I would have typing deadline on Tuesday! We all know how that worked out.

Wednesday at church--Cat made it to the study and it'd been awhile since Cat and I have really seen each other. (It's me--I've missed a whole lot of church lately--bad mom!). This is going to be a good study--already I'm thinking more about how I can be a better wife/friend/mother.

Other than Cat, there's a new couple in our group I am anxious to know better, so I'm thinking Cat and I need to schedule a lunch. And another gal whom I've long known, always admired and finally have the opportunity to just sit and hear her thoughts. That's the blessing about studies like this. I see her at church all the time--we're constantly exchanging updates and well wishes. Yet we don't get the time we need to really know each other. It's like that with too many of the faces I adore in that church--that has to change! And by now I've realized that needs to come from me, my attitude and my effort.

Finally--three dive meets this week. I know--the video is sideways, I'm lazy. Click it, though, it's only like 10 seconds long. Promise!
Poor Cody has just been worn OUT! Yesterday, conference in Park Hill. Talk about longgggg...it seemed like we watched 100 divers before Cody. After five of those long rounds, Cody told me he didn't mind if he got cut at that point, he was tired. Not to be, he and Sam, the other diver from LSN stayed in another round. Cody got up to the board and his foot slipped. The dive wasn't all bad, he got in two turns but didn't have enough height to get that last 1/2 in to dive head first. So...he came within ONE point of not making the next round. Pretty good for having a scratch dive on his score.
He's secure this year, quite a different little guy up there with more confidence. He's no longer the new freshman who has to prove worthy. And just in case he gets his head all swelled up, no worries. Cody and I have a fantastic relationship--he still thinks I'm cool. So I figure it's my job to make sure he knows his father and I love him regarless of how well he dives. Whenever he completes a not-so-great dive, he looks at me because he knows I'm going to mouth "you suck". He gets tickled with that. And all pressure goes away...until he's called again. I don't know why it works, it just does. I am fairly certain I've been caught by a few parents on opposing teams--they probably feel bad for that poor kid whose mommy just told him he sucks! That in turn gets them to cheer him on a little more, too--so yeah, brilliant!
^^Someone has to test the camera before the meet--may as well be me!
Alright, off to shower and get to Brandon's birthday party--Brandon is Cat's son! So I'm looking forward to watching her bowl--she can't bowl, we all know it! Then...more running then typing....get up do it all over again! Which is a good thing--I'm no sure I'd want to wake up and not have the option of running and working and doing it all again--and I'm painfully aware that there are too many who do not. Too many folks woke up today knowing they were terminal, not able to get out of bed and not able to plan a future. I do my life the best I can--I get to do my life, so I need to stop complaining about it so often!

Cody, Pam, Gary, And The Man-Fire

Cody dove his second dive meet of the season today and did well, if I do say so myself. (I'm not going to go into that Varsity Letter as a Freshman last year thing again, promise--won't mention it.) He could fine-tune his entry a wee bit, but he will. He placed third, so he's a happy guy. I put up a video from my camera on here, he'll be ticked love that I did that for everyone to see!

This is a big week for him, meet today, tomorrow and invitationals on Friday. I plan on being there for it all, so plan on another peek! Go ahead, play it (that's my 'yeah').

I haven't had a good opportunity to tell you about our Saturday. Our friends, Pam & Gary (who are also Alex's best friend's parents and live in our hood AND are fun fun fun), invited us over for an impromptu BBQ. They're the kind of folks you just immediately feel comfortable around. I think I could flip my flops off to the other side of the room and perch my naked, calloused feet on their kitchen table and STILL not get thrown out. That kind of comfortable. Not that I'd do that (but I probably would).

So, while I've posted Gary's 'man-fire' from the 4th of July post, it's worth posting again. Because later into the evening, we were getting into what at the time seemed like important in-depth conversation about socks. I think after a beer or two conversation can go either way--serious or silly. This was seriously silly. Gary marched upstairs and brought down his sock bin full of orphans. Very sad. Don't think I've seen so many orphans in my life. We're going to have a fall sock-sorting party, us, them, and the other family there. Sort, match and throw the orphans into Gary's man-fire. I like that. And I also like that from time to time we are free to let our hair down and relax with friends. Even if their socks don't match.

A Diving Tag & Award & I'm All Misty -Eyed About It

My friend Misty has been busy bloggin away while I've kinda been slack! So...she's come up with a way to get me going again, nothing like a good old tag weaved into an ongoing story to give me something to say (as if!) So, Misty, I accept your tag (good thing I'm not a kid in Colorado, else I couldn't play!!).

Rules:
1. Copy and paste the story below, and the rules, on your blog.
2. Find out who you're going to tag. (2-3 people, or more, if you wish)
3. Write one or two sentences to continue the story, and use the titles of the blogs you're tagging or any word(s) associated with them as keywords in the links you include in your part of the story.
4. Remember to tell your taggees that you've tagged them!
5. Feel free to use this and start your own viral link story.I'd very much appreciate a link back to Mother's Home if you do. (Or a tag, if you prefer!)

Once upon a time, after the evil stepmom had put up a Barbed wire fence around everything, the Empress came and shouted: "I've come to give you A little piece of me mind!"The evil stepmom, Shelby, came out to see what all the Rambling from this Crazy person was about.I am adding...The cranky, evil stepmom watched in horror as the insane person began to parade around singing "A Boy Named Sue."It seemed like forever this insane person would sing and for miles he would parade, all the while twisting and dancing to the song.
It was nothing short of sheer brilliance, though, this Empress, dancing like a wild monkey in an accordian store, waving goodbye to the evil (and I mean very evil) stepmom and heading off to her job as a Kelly Girl on a military base in South Carolina. It was there she was swept off her feet by Officer Gorgeous and signed up to be part of the USO.
And that's not all! No no no! My story doesn't stop with the tag, it keeps getting better and better: Mist also bestowed upon me an award which I kinda think is pretty darn cool. Thanks, my friend. I heart your blog too (she's a fantastic photographer)! And I'm going to award this tomorrow (need to get back to working!) You know me, though, I have to talk about my awards the second I hear about them!
Which reminds me......here are Codeman's diving pics from the first meet of the season (he did VERY well. It's gonna be a good season, I feel it already!) The photo of Cody diving isn't good, we aren't allowed to use flash, even though he's just warming up. Which I understand. See him? He's right at the top of the flag post.

I think you can all see without me telling you how excited Cody is that I'm there for him! And you can see why....clearly by my VIP seating arrangement, I'm sort of a big deal at the meets.
